Up Garments Workshops Wall Hangings Sue Clay

Sue, born and educated in Huddersfield was a local teacher of Art and Design for many years before become a freelance artist 8 years ago... She graduated in 2001 with an MA in design at Leeds University. Felting and non woven fabric construction became a passion in her research.  She now teaches this in her studio and in residencies in schools and colleges throughout the country. She also creates a range of fashion textiles and accessories and wall hangings, which she exhibits internationally. Sue’s experiences as an Expedition Artist working in remote parts of Kenya proved to be the catalyst that inspired her to work with the medium of wool in felting. She has close links with the University of Huddersfield where she processes and finished her works.

"TIME IS BEAUTIFUL" WORKSHOPS

Sue has experience working with adults and children with special needs. She has a special interest in helping those with terminal illnesses and/or their carers. Felting is a very therapeutic medium to relax and reflect. It also facilitates the creation of lasting memorabilia.

 ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

Sue is a very experienced teacher and has lead workshops throughout the country. She has worked with children in schools, community workshops, colleges and with people of all ages, abilities and special needs.

She likes to have an inclusive approach, addressing all the school in assembly, and possibly doing an inset session with staff. The outcomes are usually large felted wall hanging and/or 3D pieces for exhibition. Fleece is a very communicative medium to work with and offers success and enjoyment  to all.
